On October 3, 4 and 5, 2018, WEBIT and WMEA had its second joint convention, Paddling Together....Navigating the Future. The atmosphere was filled excitement as the kickoff to convention started off with a social Wednesday evening at the Radisson Inn.
Thursday, the Lunda Center at Western Tech in La Crosse was filled with 144 attendees from both WEBIT and WMEA along with students from UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater. 11 Vendors were on hand to give information on various textbooks, software applications, and donate door prizes!
Opening session on Thursday, included comments from WMEA President, Heidi Warren; WEBIT President, Stacey Ryan; and to welcome our attendees to La Crosse, Executive Director of Explore! La Crosse, A. J. Frels. Keynote speaker, Dr. Darin Eich, founder of InnovationLearning.org started off the day with his keynote on, The 3Cs of Innovation in Action: Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication, focusing on ways to be a creative and engaged leader. Audience members were active participants! Along with his keynote, Darin also did a workshop session titled, “Facilitation Tools and Techniques” where everyone participated in a quick “think tank” session.
Teachers in Business, IT, and Marketing shared their ideas and resources over the two-day convention, in areas of AP Economics, Business Law, Google Slides, MobileMakers/Incubator.edu, Career Projects, Reading Literacy, Coding, Work-Based Learning, MBAResearch, Use of Data in BE, Elementary Keyboarding, Presentation Skills, Social Media, Personal Finance, FBLA and DECA.

To cap off Thursday’s day full of breakout sessions, attendees took a paddleboat cruise on the mighty Mississippi. Food, conversations, and relaxation (along with some streaming of a Brewers victory baseball game) gave everyone some rejuvenation for the next day’s sessions.
Friday morning was the awards breakfast. WEBIT & WMEA presented numerous awards to very deserving members of their respective organizations. Congratulations to following individuals:

Andrea Gribble was Friday morning’s keynote speaker. Social Media was her topic and the attendees loved her message and the reason she created her company, #SociaSchool4EDU. She highlighted ways to get schools more fans, more shares, and more hearts (not likes). Along with her keynote address, Andrea also presented at two break out sessions; “Promotion through Social Media” and “Building Her Business: Women in the Tech World”.
Sessions wrapped up by 12:30 after three break out sessions focusing on; presentation skills, financial literacy, Accounting standards, InsertLearning a web app for immediate feedback, mindfulness, work-based learning, being a servant leader, and the opportunity to take the ASK exam.
As we wrap up 2018 in LaCrosse, we look to 2019 in Fond du Lac. Please join us starting October 23, 2019 at the Radisson Inn (formerly Holiday Inn) for a reception and social followed by two fast paced days of workshops, sessions, and keynotes at the Lake Winnebago Conference Center located within the Radisson Inn.
